UPCOMING EVENTS

What exactly are UNESCO Events? There are three categories: Learn about them below.

EVENTS

Our events range from UNESCO organised events such as conferences to events organised by our partners and designations – our World Heritage Sites, Biospheres, Geoparks and more. As a United Nations organisation, we also celebrate a number of International Days throughout the year, partnering and encouraging events and activations both on and offline designed to promote values that are central to UNESCO’s core. Discover below a brief overview of our three types of events and browse the past, present and future happenings listed in our calendar.

UNESCO EVENTS

These are events organised by us, the UK National Commission for UNESCO, and include conferences and more.

DESIGNATION AND PARTNER EVENTS

We relay events that are promoted to us by our designations - World Heritage Sites, Creative Cities, Geoparks, Biospheres, Learning Cities - and our partners - UNESCO Prizes, etc...

INTERNATIONAL DAYS

International Days are celebrations of important aspects of human life and history as well as public calls to action on critical issues, from climate change to human rights.

Why are International Days important? They provide unique opportunities to transmit UNESCO values to the world.

INTERNATIONAL DAYS

International days also provide a unique opportunity to engage citizens on global issues, to mobilise political will and resources to address these problems, but also to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity as well as remember some of our darkest times as they guide us towards building a better world.

The United Nations International Days are for everyone, all around the globe. Because they are open, you can have an important role to play in them. NGOs, universities, schools, press and more will be putting together campaigns, events, and calls to action worldwide to provide further opportunities to engage, learn, and transmit the values and knowledge associated with each International Day. They serve as an important vehicle to connect the local to the international.

WHY INTERNATIONAL DAYS?

International days are not end goals, they are global calls to action.

WHAT HAVE THEY ACHIEVED?

Conversations lead to actions, taken locally and globally, by individuals, corporations and governments.

GET INVOLVED

International days exist through you.
