UNESCO is the United Nations agency responsible for coordinating international cooperation in education, science, culture, and communication & information. Its goal is to help prevent war by building the defences of peace in the minds of men and women.
The work of the UK National Commission is built around the four thematic UNESCO programme areas of Education, Science, Culture, and Communication & Information. Our work, and that of UNESCO globally, aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and attainment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The positive impact achieved by the UNESCO in the UK network (including the National Commission, Designated Sites, Chairs & UNITWIN Networks, and strategic partners) is felt not just within the UK itself, but across the world, from the arctic circle to the Global South.
