FORBES article celebrates UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in the UK and highlights their global importance

June 26th 2025

US-based international business media organisation, FORBES, has published an in-depth article on the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme, with a specific focus on the seven UK UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.

The amazing article is the result of the visit made in March by Mauro Colagreco - UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for biodiversity and Michelin-starred chef - to the Brighton and Lewes Downs (The Living Coast) UNESCO Biosphere Reserve to see the transformative initiatives led by the Biosphere team and it's partner organisations.

The feature highlights a range of projects that are taking place across the The Living Coast, including the "Our City, Our World" schools programme and the Sussex Kelp Recovery Project among others.

'World-Changing Program'

The article highlights the importance of the "world-changing program" and advocates that UNESCO Biosphere Reserves deserve to receive greater awareness, funding, and recognition.

"Given the program’s tremendous economic and quality of life benefits to communities and the environment globally, and given the importance of the UN 17 Sustainability Goals that have been adopted by governments and organizations around the world, greater awareness of the UNESCO Man and Biosphere program would be additive and a virtuous cycle."
