The UK National Commission for UNESCO (UKNC) is delighted to welcome Keira Brown as Project Coordinator for its Local to Global Programme, which connects UNESCO sites and networks across the UK with UNESCO’s global frameworks to support place-based collaboration, learning and impact.

Keira joins UKNC following a pivotal year at Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, including its 20th anniversary programme and international sub-network meeting. She brings extensive experience across the cultural sector, with a strong commitment to social equity and accessibility, and a track record spanning programming, journalism, advocacy, communications, PR, partnership development and event management. Most recently, Keira stepped up to lead the organisation through a period of transition, working closely with the Board on international representation, funding applications, governance and stakeholder engagement. Her previous roles include work with The Bookseller, the Royal Society of Literature, Nielsen BookData, the Saltire Society and the Stand Comedy Club, alongside ongoing freelance journalism.

On her appointment, Keira said:

'After working for Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature, during a pivotal year, celebrating their 20th anniversary with a programme and campaign, it will probably come as no surprise to note this new chapter, as I've accepted a post with UK National Commission for UNESCO, working as project coordinator. I very much look forward to working with James, Matt, Nushin, Alison, and the team, and with all the marvellous Creative Cities, World Heritage Sites, Geoparks, and Biospheres across the UK. 2026 is going to be an exciting year!'

Keira will support the delivery of the Local to Global Programme, led by Nushin Hussain, to strengthen collaboration across UNESCO sites and networks in the UK and to connect local expertise and innovation with UNESCO’s international work.

Nushin Hussain, Project Implementation Manager, said:

“Keira joins us at a critical time for the network of UNESCO sites and designations across the UK, as the Local to Global Programme moves into a key phase of delivery. Her experience within the UNESCO Creative Cities network, alongside her strong journalistic background and commitment to equity, collaboration and partnership working, will be invaluable. I’m delighted to welcome Keira to the team and look forward to working closely with her as we continue to build a more connected UNESCO network locally and globally.”
