Following the signing of a cultural partnership agreement last year, Manchester has been chosen by its Catalan counterparts to be the first-ever English guest city at this year's event in a move that will see partners from the two cities working closely to put together a spectacular programme of Mancunian-grown talent in outdoor arts and music for audiences in Barcelona.
Manchester UNESCO City of Literature has been leading on a series of writer exchanges with Barcelona, starting with Booker-listed Ian McGuire who participated in BCNegra, the crime fiction writing festival earier this month.
Ian's appearence will be followed up by Manchester writers being present at three more of this year's Barcelona literature festivals - Barcelona Poesia, Món Llibre and Festival 42.
