The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales UNESCO World Heritage Site was the focus of the latest episode of BBC One Countryfile programme.

The episode featured presenters touring this symbol of Wales' industrial heritage and speaking to those who were integral in this area acheiving UNESCO World Heritage status in 2021.

In late 2023, Gwynedd Council, secured an £19 million grant from the (former) Government's 'Levelling Up' scheme to regenerate the area.

Historian Dr David Gwynn, who has studied the area for over 30 years shared the importance of gaining World Heritage status in attracting funding, "UNESCO inscription doesn't come with a cash prize, but it does mean that any bid to a funding authority tends to go quite high up the list"
