UNESCO Courier launches new English language podcast

March 24th 2025

The UNESCO Courier, the organisation's quarterly magazine, has launched a new podcast telling the story of some of UNESCO's most influential and important campaigns and achievements throughout its 80 year history.

The first episode tells the story of the Nubia Campaign. In the midst of the Cold War, over 50 countries united under UNESCO to save Egypt’s ancient temples from drowning under the rising waters of the Aswan Dam.

Launched in 1960, this unprecedented rescue operation moved over 20 architectural monuments - including Abu Simbel and Philae, saving them for future generations. The Nubia Campaign became a landmark in global solidarity, inspiring the UNESCO World Heritage List.
