UNESCO launches new Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme Water Information Network System (IHP-WINS) Platform

May 21st 2025

IHP-WINS is UNESCO’s new open-access platform that strengthens the sharing, integration, and visualisation of water-related data to support evidence-based decision-making and sustainable water management.

By harmonizing diverse datasets and knowledge from monitoring networks, research institutions, and international organizations, IHP-WINS enhances global collaboration, empowers data accessibility, and strives to bridge the data-knowledge gap by advancing the objectives of IHP-IX: Science for a Water Secure World in a Changing Environment.

The IHP-WINS mission is to develop an interconnected and data-driven UNESCO Water Family, where Member States, researchers, and stakeholders can collaboratively generate, exchange, and utilise high-quality water data and information, at local, regional, and global levels for decision making.

Key features of the portal include a data catalogue, geospatial viewer, thematic viewers, an open-learning platform, and community workspaces. Those who can contribute to the IHP-WINS portal include governments & water authorities, scientists & researchers, and participants and citizens in water-related projects.
