UNESCO sites across the north and midlands feature on latest series of BBC's 'Great British Railway Journeys'

April 28th 2025

A number of UNESCO sites in the north and midlands have taken centre stage in the latest series of the popular BBC show 'Great British Railway Journeys'.

Over the course of the 16th series of the travel show, host Michael Portillo visited Windermere in the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site, whizzed past Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage Site, and crossed the eponymous iron bridge of Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In episode 13 of the insightful series, Michael Portillo spent some time in the Black Country UNESCO Global Geopark. Here he met Graham Worton, Head of Geology at Dudley and Museum, and Black Country Global Geopark Site Coordinator. Graham wowed Michael by showing him some of the truly incredible (and unique) fossils found in the Geopark, including the famous "Dudley Bug".
