Led by the Birmingham Institute for Sustainability & Climate Action (BISCA), the University’s work spans five critical areas:
- Adaptation & Resilience: Strategies to protect vulnerable communities and ecosystems, enhance infrastructure, and improve food and water security
- Sustainability Education: Embedding climate literacy across education systems to empower future generations
- Equitable Energy Transition: Promoting inclusive, low-carbon energy systems through innovation, governance reform, and public engagement
- Climate Justice & Health: Aligning climate goals with public health and equity to ensure no one is left behind
- Climate Finance: Mobilising responsible investment and reforming financial systems to close the global climate funding gap.
The report includes targeted policy briefs with national and international recommendations, urging governments, institutions, and communities to act decisively and collaboratively. Initiatives like Engage Amazonia 2025 (with the UBBI) exemplify the University’s global engagement, fostering partnerships with researchers and communities in the Amazon region.
This work reflects the University’s belief that (with the right frameworks, partnerships, and resolve) a sustainable and just future is still within reach.
