Hull
Kingston-upon-Hull, a historic port city on the Humber, is known for its maritime heritage and cultural life. Today it is developing a green, digital and cultural economy as a UK smart city. Hull was designated as a Learning City for its long history of embedding lifelong learning with a focus on skills, across all parts of the city. The designation also recognises the ambitious plans to provide opportunity for every person in Hull through education.
Hull Learning City’s Vision is to integrate lifelong learning into economic, cultural and community development. In the medium term, it aims to expand access to employment and skills, deliver the Culture and Heritage Strategy, promote the Colliderfest, and build on Hull’s maritime legacy. In the long term, Hull aims to achieve carbon neutrality, develop a high-skills economy and foster inclusive cultural growth, positioning itself as the UK’s Green Energy City. Through initiatives such as Learning Neighbourhoods and the Green Skills Academy, Hull intends to contribute innovation, equity and resilience to UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities.
