There is much to explore in humanity’s story regarding the development of the rights of an individual against the State. The Bill of Rights 1689 sits as a cornerstone of this narrative. At its core, the Bill of Rights guarantees frequent parliament meetings, free elections, and freedom of speech within Parliament, principles that are still in force today. The Bill has acted as a model for the first ten amendments to the US Bill of Rights.
Its global significance has also been marked on other instruments detailing the rights of individuals including the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.
