York Minister Prescient Neighbourhood Plan A Sustainable Future 2020 – 2035

DownloadDownload

The York Minster Precinct Neighbourhood Plan provides a statutory planning framework guiding the sustainable future of the Minster and its six-hectare estate between 2020 and 2035.

Developed through extensive consultation and adopted by the City of York Council in 2022, the plan sets out a long-term vision for conserving the internationally significant heritage of the Precinct while improving visitor facilities, public spaces, learning provision and environmental sustainability. It demonstrates how community-led planning can support the stewardship of major heritage sites through partnership between the Minster, local authorities, heritage bodies and residents.

The plan is explored in more detail in the accompanying article by Alison Smedley, which highlights its relevance as a model for heritage governance within the UNESCO network.
